ABOUT ABOUT

Hale & True Cider Courses are back! Join us to learn how to make cider from Hale & True owner and cider maker, Kerry McKenzie.

This one night, three-hour workshop is perfect for cider fans who want to learn more about the drink they love and those who want to get started cider making at home. The class is focused on learning how to make consistent, delicious cider and creating a solid foundation of cider making knowledge.

In this workshop you will:

  • Learn about the history of cider, cider styles, and apple varieties
  • Learn step-by-step how to make high-quality cider at home
  • Start your own batch of cider with fresh-pressed, local PA apple juice
  • Enjoy a guided tasting of different cider styles with time for Q&A and socializing

We'll be picking up juice from our favorite local orchard for everyone to use as the base of your cider. We'll talk about the different varieties of local apples available, their characteristics, and history of cider making apples. Together, we will measure the sugar density of the fresh juice, then everyone will rehydrate and add yeast to their own gallon of fresh juice to begin the fermentation process.

You’ll be going home with:

  • A one gallon carboy with airlock and stopper, full of fresh juice with yeast pitched and ready to ferment
  • A comprehensive cider making manual written by Hale & True
  • A shopping list with everything you need for a full at-home cider making setup

The next course is scheduled for Tuesday, 5/10 at 6:00-9:00 pm. The cost is $125 for a single ticket, or $210 for a double ticket. With a double ticket, two people will make one batch of cider.

This is a small group course with a limited number of spots available. We recommend eating something beforehand as food will not be provided.
